Laser Season Has Arrived
by Medical Injector Vanessa Stripling
With summer behind us and the holiday season ahead, now is the perfect time to address the spots, dots, and sun damage we acquired this summer. The best way to correct any problem is by combining multiple modalities, and Body+Beauty Lab has you covered.
September is the perfect time to start a series of corrective treatments. IPL , or Intense Pulse light, is a broad-spectrum light that targets various skin concerns like sun damage, rosacea, and acne while increasing collagen production. Unlike lasers, which use a single wavelength of light, IPL uses a range of wavelengths to address multiple issues simultaneously. And who doesn’t want a treatment that does all the things?
If you skipped sunscreen or acquired more dots and spots than you would have liked, IPL can be paired with the Moxi laser to make it look like you skipped straight from spring to fall. The Moxi is a fractional laser that delivers controlled micro-beams of light into the skin, which helps to stimulate collagen production and promote skin renewal. While this procedure requires a few days of downtime, it is well worth it when you see the results.
As always, pairing clinical-grade skin care with your treatments will protect and improve the outcome. Post laser, I love the Alastin Skin Nectar . Packed with peptides, vitamins C and E, hyaluronic acid, and botanical extracts, this product soothes and repairs.
If you are still not using a retinol, this is your sign to start. This vitamin A derivative works to renew skin by increasing cell turnover, stimulating collagen synthesis, and encouraging the growth of new skin. Retinol alone is a powerful tool to remove sunspots, improve skin texture and tone, and soften fine lines and wrinkles. I highly recommend our Body+Beauty Lab retinol products. Starting at 50 and increasing to 150, these retinol creams are like no other in that they leave your skin supple and hydrated and are formulated to gently yet efficiently produce results.
Lastly, remember to baby the new baby skin we have created and keep it covered with sunscreen. Elta MD is my preference as it does not have the tacky sunscreen feel many other sunscreens have. It also has a tinted formulation that is perfect for no-makeup days.
While there are many ways to treat sun damage, these methods work best when combined to give you the post-summer glow minus the spots
